70 ex-Maoist combatants conferred insignia of NA officers

Seventy former Maoist combatants selected earlier for the post of cadet-officers have been conferred the insignia of Nepal Army Lieutenant rank on Monday, bringing an end to the final phase of the integration process.

The militant-turned state army officers were conferred the insignia amid a programme organised at Nepal Army Academy, Kharipati in Bhaktapur. Chairman of the Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi was the chief guest of the function.

Chairman Regmi along with Chief of the Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher Rana jointly presented the insignia to the candidates who had successfully completed the basic military trainings of nine months.

The new cadets will be given various positions following departmental bridging course of three months.

Meanwhile, former division commander Yam Bahadur Adhikari will be given the post of colonel while, vice-commanders Padam Lama and Bashudev Ghimire will be given the post of lieutenant colonels as per the earlier decision.

According to the NA , 13 former Maoist commanders will be given the position of major, 30 Captain and 24 Lieutenant.

PURBANCHAL KALAYATRA- 2070 IN BHEDETAR

A Purbanchal Kalayatra-2070 BS (Eastern regional artistic journey) is to be held at Bhedetar of Dhankuta on Monday jointly organised by the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Departments of Handicraft and Painting.

Its exhibition will be held in Sunsari Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dharan, on Tuesday and Wednesday to be participated in by 50 artists of Pokhara, Hetauda, Kathmandu and the Eastern Region.

Academicians of NAFA, Karna Prasad Maskey, Shanta Kumar Rai and Gyanendra Bibash, senior artists Krishna Manandhar, Batsyayan, Buddhi Gurung, Alok Gurung, LP Gurung, Gopal Shrestha, Naresh Sundar Sainju, Hari Bahadur Khadka, Surendra Pradhan, Saurganga Darshandhari as well as a large number of artists of the Eastern Region including from Dharan, Dhankuta, Biratnagar, Pathari and Jhapa would participate in the workshop.

Academician Rai said that the workshop is going to be organised with an objective of making artists of different sectors aware and for sharing of technology and knowledge among artists.

The workshop is going to be organised in co-work of Hotel Association, Bhedetar, Dharan Municipality and Sunsari Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Such exhibition will also be held at NAFA in Kathmandu after Dharan.

There will be one-day handicraft competition in school level during the exhibition and the best students will be awarded, said the NAFA departments. RSS

No Alternative to Take part in Election for Baidya led Maoist: Rayamajhi

UCPN (Maoist) leader Top Bahadur Rayamajhi said that the Baidhya-led Maoist party does not have any alternative to take part in second CA election on 19 November.

Addressing an election gathering at Gajehada in the district on Saturday, leader Rayamajhi said that if the Baidhya-led Maoist party does not take part in the election it will lose the legitimacy of a political party.

UCPN Maoist will gain majority because it is only party that has a road map of new Nepal, he added.

Likewise, local leaders Bishnu Hari Sharma, Indra Mani Poudel, Ram Prasad Banjade and Ram Lautan Tiwari expressed their views on the occasion. RSS

Police Seizes Illegally Imported Clothes in Biratnagar

A police patrol team of Biratnagar has seized illegally imported clothes on Saturday.

Police confiscated some 138 units of different clothes from local Kamal Sahani's house at Biratnagar-7. The clothes were imported by evading the custom tax, said police.

The goods will be handed over to Biratnagar Customs Office for further action, police said. RSS

Decisive talks with dissenting parties today: former PM Bhattarai

Panityanki (Morang), Aug. 14: Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai has said that decisive talks would be held with the disgruntled parties by this evening.

Talking to journalists at the Biratnagar Airport this morning, he said decisive talks would be held with the political parties opposing the election including the CPN-Maoist, the Sanghiya Samajbadi Party and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum Nepal.

UCPN (Maoist) leader Bhattarai claimed that the dissenting parties would participate in the Second Constituent Assembly Election as all their demands were likely to be met.

Referring to the case related to one Krishna Prasad Adhikari of his home district Gorakha, former Prime Minister Bhattarai said that the Adhikari case was being politicized and warned that this would distract the peace process.

"Nobody should do anything that distracts the peace process under various cover as it has already been stipulated by the Constitution that the cases from the conflict period shall be dwelt in a package by the proposed Truth and Reconciliation Commission," he said.

He said the Adhikari case will in no way hamper the election process. Bhattarai arrived here in connection with attending the mass meetings his party is organising at Itahari of Sunsari district and Pathari of Morang district today. RSS
