The government Intelligence Agency of West Bengal state of India has claimed that the Nepali Maoists have been assisting the Gorkhaland Movement, a movement demanding a separate state in the Darjeeling Hills.

A report issued by the intelligence department in the state, made public hours prior to the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's call for a 72-hour deadline and warnings of stern action against the agitators came to an end, has made such claims. The report, however, do not clarify which Maoist was assisting the movement.
A Nepali newspaper Himalaya Darpan has quoted the report saying that the leaders of Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM) were in constant touch with Nepalese political leaders. It has also stated that weapons and financial assistance in the movement was entering into the state from the Nepali side.
Meanwhile, GJM Chairman Bimal Gurung has condemned such intelligence report and said that such allegations were being made aiming to suppress the movement.
